FBM Two 2012 minutes

May 13th, 2012 Meeting Minutes
Present:

Notes:
- Bridgefridaynoonsing
o Richard plays guitar every week
o Will continue if someone wants to do it
o Relaxing atmosphere for anyone who wants to come
o Getting more people to come is not the goal – should just be available for those who want
o Good witness to campus
- Retreats
o Get away from campus for super-relaxing atmosphere
o Connect with nature
o Camping retreats can be stressful preparing tents and food
 Some people don’t mind, though it is more work
o fall retreat is usually camping, winter on campus, spring rag retreats at camp oakes
o Skippy bought time shares
 Two bedroom suites
 Fully stocked kitchens
o No winter retreat this year
 Had already had three camping retreats
• Pre-term, rag, rag-redo
o What are main reasons not to come on retreats?
 Emails not sent early enough
 Uncomfortable with rag program
• Secret
• Exclusive
 Robb explained the rag program
• Symbolic step to mature Christian faith
• Highlight areas of growth
• Discipleship – sometimes life changing
• Tool to help grow
 Each rag represents something – information is public
 Ragging is like programmed affirmation of things that should already be happening in a person’s life
 Putting ceremonies in public would make them lose lots of power and meaning
 Blindfolds also allow people running the ceremony to screw up without being seen
- Frosh prayer
o Started a long time ago
o Time before dinner to pray together
o Very peaceful place and time to pray
o Pray with brothers and sisters in Christ
 Catch up with others
 See their passion and interests
 Exchange burdens of the heart
o Learn about prayer
o No homework calling “Work on me! Work on me!”
o Sometimes random people show up
o Usually same grow routinely
- Prayer meetings
o Spiritual cover for fellowship
o Spiritual warfare, discipleship, conflict resolution
o Can ask any question you want without being laughed at
o Bring any worries you have and have people lay hands on you
o Any sense of negative emotion between brethren is resolved before the meeting
o Don’t put time limits on the Holy Spirit – take as much time as needed
o Meal helps people catch up and be more ready to enter prayer
o Meal is a time for discussing general questions
o Spreadsheet should be more utilized
o Also people should help Jon clean before people arrive
- Mentors
o Mentor program
 Concern that there weren’t enough mentors for next year
 Questions over roles and who was involved
 Come to some sort of CCF event once a month – Large Group, Small Group, Prayer Meeting, retreat
 Would be open to meeting with someone on an regular basis for advice and/or discipleship
 Can also speak at large group
o Abraham
 Caltech alum 2010
 If you are marginalized as a leper, prostitute, etc Abraham can help you become a godly unclean person
 Help people who are Christians but look unclean
